This worked example supports our HubSpot contract management guide.
HubSpot ramp pricing represents different prices for the same product over successive periods. For a three-year customer contract with agreed annual increases, map each price to its own start date and finite term. Keep the commitment, invoice frequency and renewal date separate, then verify your account’s supported billing route.
This is about pricing your customers’ agreements in HubSpot. Start with one signed agreement and its dated schedule. An agreed price increase inside the current term does not automatically require another renewal negotiation.

How do annual price increases fit one multi-year contract?
One commitment can contain several prices and either monthly or annual billing. Contract term tells you how long the customer committed; the price schedule tells you which rate applies when; billing frequency tells you how often to invoice.
Our fictional Cedar Vale agreement runs from 1 January 2027 through 31 December 2029. It covers one service, quantity one, with a 10% increase at each anniversary.
| Service period | Annual service price | Monthly billing alternative |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Jan to 31 Dec 2027 | $12,000 | 12 charges of $1,000 |
| 1 Jan to 31 Dec 2028 | $13,200 | 12 charges of $1,100 |
| 1 Jan to 31 Dec 2029 | $14,520 | 12 charges of $1,210 |
| Total commitment | $39,720 | 36 charges totalling $39,720 |
The alternatives cover the same service prices before tax, fees and usage adjustments. Invoice issue dates, payment due dates and advance billing follow the actual agreement. The 10% increase illustrates the calculation; it is not a recommended commercial policy.
How do you set up ramp pricing on a HubSpot quote?
HubSpot’s current quote editor documents a ramp as separate line items for the same product, each with its own billing start date and term length. According to HubSpot’s quote guide, this route requires Revenue Hub Professional or Enterprise and an assigned Revenue Hub seat.
For this example, specify three sequential 12-month phases starting in January 2027, January 2028 and January 2029. Select the intended billing frequency and corresponding amount for each phase. A $12,000 annual service price corresponds to $1,000 per monthly charge in the monthly alternative.
Before you create a quote, ask the sales team to confirm the product, quantity and approved pricing. In HubSpot’s quoting tool:
- Open the deal, start a new quote and select the quote template.
- In the line item editor, add the product from the product library for each phase, or use permitted custom line items. Set each phase’s price, start and term.
- Preview the quote as the buyer. Check that its pricing structure and any discount match the accepted scope. Review which fields the billing integration will use.
Use the workbook to calculate expected amounts before the sales rep sends the quote. See the linked setup guide for the broader CPQ process and CRM workflow.
Keep the agreement identity traceable through its Contract, associated sales Deal and Quote. If all three phases start together, the record describes concurrent charges. Simply adding future prices as active recurring line items can therefore misstate the schedule.
Check billing support before configuring collection. The same quote guide explicitly says ramp pricing cannot be configured with HubSpot payments. Other processor, beta and billing paths need their own eligibility checks. A quote displaying three prices does not prove automated collection works.
The direct Contract creation beta is another documented route for recording agreements. Evaluate its account access and line-item controls separately. See our Contracts and renewal quotes setup guide for the wider configuration choices.
Is each annual increase a renewal or new revenue?
A scheduled anniversary increase implements terms already agreed for the current commitment. A renewal establishes the next term. Keep those events distinct when deciding whether another sales opportunity is needed.
In this example, $39,720 is the full commitment. The first year’s annual service price is $12,000; neither figure proves cash collected or accounting revenue recognized. Agree how your reporting labels current recurring value and scheduled changes. Additional operational deals need a defined purpose and exclusions that prevent duplicate bookings.
For pricing negotiated for the next term, use our renewal quote and price increase guide.
What should pass before you automate the price changes?
Test each boundary and its expected charge, then record the observed result. A correct total does not prove the right customer will receive the right invoice on the right date.
- Confirm the schedule. Each phase has the agreed product, quantity, price, start and finite term. Verify how your chosen editor interprets end dates.
- Check the first anniversary. Year 1 ends on 31 December 2027; Year 2 applies from 1 January 2028. Under monthly billing, expect $1,100 for the new service month. Charging both phases would produce $2,100.
- Repeat at Year 3. Expect $1,210 monthly, or $14,520 for the annual alternative. Check for overlaps and missing periods.
- Name the billing owner. If Finance invoices in another system, confirm its schedule separately and prevent a second billing job from charging the same period.
- Check term end. Document what happens after 31 December 2029. The example does not establish a fourth-year price or automatic renewal.
In the workbook, enter the environment, evidence, observed amount and corrective action for each test. Blank observations mean the test remains unverified. Start with one agreement and resolve mismatches before repeating the configuration across customers.
The companion video illustrates the schedule and expected transitions. It does not demonstrate live invoices or an executed HubSpot billing configuration. Product documentation checked 19 October 2026.
